"Does Social Media and a College Education Have an Impact on Students’ Financial Literacy?"

Faculty Mentor: Dr. Ramos Salazar

This research examines how social media has impacted the level of financial literacy skills among college students at West Texas A&M. It also explores whether attending college can be an influential factor of knowledge and which majors are at an advantage over others. The study recruited 100 respondents and analyzed data from 96 currently enrolled college students; the survey was distributed through Qualtrics. Furthermore, to evaluate the data we used IBM SPSS software, where we developed regressional analysis and ANOVA to measure our findings. The overall findings were that social media usage does not impact students’ financial literacy, but it does influence them to learn these skills. In addition, we were able to conclude that attending college is a determining factor on the level of financial skills, and it helps college students learn these matters. However, the data showed that some majors are at an advantage over others when it comes to financial exposure.
